The 2005 Bentley Continental GT - More than a Car, an Icon

If you want a serious car, with serious features, nothing fits you better than a Bentley and the 2005 Bentley Continental GT will suit you best, without a doubt. As the first model launched by Bentley Cars Ltd, after the ending of the 70 year partnership with Rolls Royce, this was a car that was meant to make an impression, and an impression it made. With a design that respects all of the standards launched by the previously created Bentley cars, the 2005 Continental still brings on some changes: it is the first Bentley model that sports an all-wheel drive and it is also designed to be smaller and slightly less expensive than previous models.

The 2005 Bentley Continental GT is designed to be pleasing its driver and passenger. Created as a statement for the newly independent Bentley, it is a small-scale version of the previous Bentley line - it keeps its general features and yet adds a new breath of fresh air and a new personality.

This 2005 Continental comes with great performance, being able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in an impressive 4.7 seconds. Quite impressive, isn't it?

All in all, it is clear that the manufacturers have outdone themselves and managed to make every little detail perfect when building this car. And this is why the Bentley Continental GT for sale has become an icon when it comes to luxury.

For years and years the British were the poor relations of motor racing. Although they built nice sports cars, they only very rarely won an international sports-car race. And no one dreamed that the bumbling English would ever get any place at all in Grand Prix racing. I had long thought that this was why the British and their anglophile adherents deified the old "big green Bentleys” of Le Mans.

And why, along with this deification, they also magnified the importance of the vingt quatre heures du Mans out of all proportion. After all, the Bentleys must have won an important race. But times have changed. The British are the near masters of motor racing. It is no longer necessary to look back nostalgically at ancient victories, or at the cars which won them. But the Bentley cult continues.

I was at least partly wrong; people (and include me, please) love those old Bentleys for other reasons beside the fact that they won in the days when other British machines seemed to make a habit of losing. Why? The Bentleys from first to last a mere twelve years, were honestly, beautifully constructed motorcars built by an honest man, Walter Owen Bentley, who had the same feel for carved and cast metal that Henry Royce had.

For like Royce, he had served the grueling, five-year apprenticeship in the locomotive shops of the Great Northern Railway. Further, although built to keep on running without fault or breakage, Bentleys were meant to move rapidly, to steer positively, to look wonderful, and they still do today.
