Maserati GranTurismo for Comfort and Style
The Maserati GranTurismo offers everything you would expect from Maserati: style,
technologically advanced and of course, comfort and elegance.
The GranTurismo combines sport with elegance with its large grille and tight fitting bodywork. In addition the
GranTurismo has enough seating for four people, a definite plus for Maserati.
True to the Maserati design, the grille has curved in vertical slats with the traditional Trident logo suspended
from the middle.
The headlights are an assertive addition to the oblique front bumper, an element in the design that has always made
Maserati distinguishable from all others.
The bonnet is fixated between the front fenders' crests as is typical with this car.
An oval version of the Maserati called the "Saetta" appears on the pillars in the rear.
The style of the GranTurismo is not limited to the exterior but includes the interior of the car as well.
Like other Maserati models, Pininfarina designed the GranTurismo. The V design that permeates through the design of
the car is common to the Maserati.
Within the V of the GranTurismo's dashboard one can view the Maserati clock.
Even the design of the seats that unify the interior and exterior have the V design.
Technology
The power behind the Maserati GranTurismo involves an eight-cylinder engine that is now among the company's new
power supplies. The manufacturer used aluminum alloy and silicon to construct the cylinder heads. The engine
contains 32 valves that are powered by two overhead camshafts. The camshafts that are located on the aspirated side
obtain their power from a variator. A wet sump controls the car's lubrication system thus reducing the amount of
noise on the interior of the car. Even the minimal noise from the engine has no negative affect on the pleasure of
the drive for passengers or driver.
The exhaust system in the car meets the most stringent standards for emissions without causing any negative affects
on the performance of the car.
The catalytic converters are made of metal rather than ceramic, the same material racecar drivers use for their
cars.
You will find the Maserati responds to acceleration immediately—there is no waiting for it to "get up and go."
This is due in part to the throttle control that is powered electronically and allows the driver to control the car
with just minimal tapping of the pedal.
Transmission
The gearbox on the GranTurismo is controlled hydraulically, a process that allows the engine to perform at peak
efficiency. The gearbox is self-adapting and operates automatically if the driver chooses to allow it to do so.
This is quite helpful in the low-mid range revs yet has no negative affects on the highest power. This system also
allows the driver to change gears up to 7200 rpm, something no other automatic transmission anywhere in the world
is able to accomplish.
The gearbox offers four settings: Auto Normal works well when you just want to cruise comfortably; Auto Sport
for those who enjoy a drive that is sportier and more challenging; Auto ICE helps out in situations of low grip
such as snow, rain or ice; and Manual mode allows the driver to choose when he or she wishes or needs to change
gears using paddles on the steering wheel.
Chassis
The distribution of the weight in the GranTurismo allows the car to achieve optimal performance with 49 percent
of the weight of the car in the front and 51 percent in the rear. Designers and engineers accomplished this by
situating the engine behind the car's front axle. This also provides the driver with an enhanced sense of security
regardless of the driving conditions.
Suspension
One of the major contributors to the precision handling you can expect to achieve in the GranTurismo is the
wishbone suspension in both the front and back of the car. The anti-dive mechanism within the system stops the
front end from dipping during braking action and the back end from squatting when the driver presses the
accelerator.
The Skyhook system is an optional piece of equipment that owners can install on their GranTurismo. This system
involves aluminum shock absorbers that constantly adjust the dampers in the car. The technology behind the system
allows it to automatically increase or decrease the dampers based on the road conditions and individual driving
style.
The system has sensors that have the ability to detect any movement either in the body of the car or its wheels.
Once the control unit processes the movement, the system automatically adjusts the dampers in accordance with the
recorded data from the sensors. It is able to perform this task without comprising the car's performance.
