A Race Car Tribute - The 2005 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren
A new era for high performance cars was unleashed when the Mercedes Benz Mclaren appeared, and at the
same time it paid homage to the race cars of the 50s. A great deal of power is hidden under its carbon fibre
structure and the distinctive Mercedes-Benz lines are easily recognizable from a mile away.
The German automaker’s collaboration with McLaren resulted in a great car, combining style with Formula 1 stats and
security features. The most obvious example of that is the transfer of carbon fibre from the track to the road,
leading to increased rigidity the likes of which steel only dreams of. The more rigid the structure is, the safer
and more is comfortable the car.
Given this 2005 Mercedes Mclaren is quite the looker, the new owner must have a hard time keeping every mortal away
from touching his prized possession.
Getting back on track, let us see the heart of everything on this galactic black jewel – and by that we mean the
engine, of course. Like a deadly predator, you only know what it’s capable of when it pounces on you.
The 600 horsepower generated by the 5.5 litre V8 supercharged engine makes a perfect match with the almost equal
amount of torque. Every bit of that power flows to the wheels via the AMG five-speed automatic transmission that
allows for the 60 mph threshold to be reached in 3.8 seconds and a max speed of over 200 mph.
To compensate for that, special ceramic composite brake discs are fitted that can bring the car to a complete stop
in just 114 feet, from 62 mph.
The Mclaren SLR is known for its excellent handling and feedback. And
that is thanks to the traditional Blisten coil-over-dampers suspension system, as well as the lack of an
electro-hydraulic steering system so many car builders prefer.
The interior of the vehicle is very comfortable and has a very welcoming air about it thanks to the red and black
theme. It kind of gives you an impression of being in the cockpit of an actual race car, waiting for the lights to
go green. Evidently, that was the whole idea behind choosing that trim.
Whoever owns this Mercedes Benz SLR is a lucky man and we can only wish him to have a lot of fun driving
it.
